Alliance members should be aware of local, state and national legislative issues that can affect the profession of dentistry. AADA encourages its members to become involved with their state Political Action Committee (PAC), the American Dental Political Action Committee (ADPAC) and the ADA's Grassroots Action Team Network.
ADPAC is the bipartisan voice of thousands of dentists and alliance members, who care deeply about their family dental practice, its patients and the dental profession. They have decided to pool their financial resources to help elect candidates who understand the importance of dentistry and are committed to the nation's oral health. By contributing to ADPAC, you join a powerful and united team that effectively advocates the interest of organized dentistry. For additional information or to join ADPAC, please contact us at 202-898-2424 or e-mail govtpol@ada.org.
There is a new student program. The dental students' Pizza and Politics program has been totally revamped and is now called the ADPAC Lunch & Learn program. There is a program kit and it contains:
- Five steps to hosting an ADPAC Lunch & Learn
- ADPAC FAQ
- ADPAC PowerPoint
- Capwiz sign-up information
If you are interested in having a copy of the program materials, please contact Connie*.
ADA GRASSROOTS ACTION TEAM NETWORK is an ideal way for alliance members and dentists to get involved in the political process and help shape legislative decisions affecting the dental profession, its patients, and the dental family. The Grassroots Action Team Network is a coalition of thousands of volunteers, who mobilize in support of political candidates and regularly take dentistry's message to their representatives in Congress. It establishes alliance members and dentists as an important constituency for politicians.
When an important legislative issue arises, action team members are sent an "ACTION ALERT" e-mail through the ADA Capwiz system. This e-mail will inform members of the issue and why the member's assistance is needed. As part of the e-mail, the member is provided with an editable text message to assist the member in writing their message. It also links the message directly to the member's legislator, making it easy for members to participate in the political process. Be part of this grassroots effort, and sign up.
EDUCATION
AADA has designed a special guide to help its members understand the political process and how to put that knowledge to use. Learn how you can protect your family, the dental profession, and its patients in the Legislative Advocacy Manual.
GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS
Visit the ADA source of news and resources on the ongoing actions between organized dentistry and government. From here you will be able to link to government web sites from all 50 states, the U.S. Congress, and other federal agencies.
LEGISLATIVE and ADPAC AWARDS
During our annual convention, alliance members are acknowledged for their outstanding efforts in the different areas of legislation and advocacy. Go to Member Project Awards for an application form.
