Sources of Dental Health Education Materials
The American Dental Association at www.ada.org and the National institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research at www.nidcr.nih.gov have a wide array of Dental Health Educational materials. Below are other helpful links to resources.
Children:
- “Milk Matters” – Free 14-page coloring book is part of the NICHD Milk Matters campaign, designed to teach parents, children, and health care providers about the importance of calcium for children and teens. The booklet, for children ages four to eight, follows Buddy Brush as he explains why calcium is critical not only to good health, but also to healthy teeth, and outlines how to take good care of teeth.
- “Mouth Power” – an interactive program, developed by the Samuel Harris National Museum of Dentistry, to teach children about good oral health. Child receives a certificate upon completion of the program
- “Smile Smarts” - is an oral health curriculum for preschool through grade eight students offering flexible, modular lesson plans, support materials, hands-on classroom demonstrations, student activity sheets, and suggestions for further oral health activities.
“Ready, Set Brush” – ADA and Readers’ Digest designed this 12 page cardboard pop-up book where Sesame Street characters help kids learn to care for their teeth.

- Colgate “Kids World” – Play online games, puzzles and other activities that teach about healthy teeth.

- “Got Rot?” – Information on the hard truth about soft drinks. Very useful for campaigning for the removal of soft drink machines in school settings. Brochures, posters and stickers are available.
- “The Gross, Disgusting and Totally Cool Mouth Book” by Dr. Theodore Kroll. Close-up photographs of healthy and diseased children’s teeth that graphically illustrate the results of poor oral hygiene.

- “Senior Smiles” – a 12 page booklet to educate older adults about good oral health and its connection to their general health. The booklet is free to Alliance members, pay only shipping charges.

- “Smiles for Seniors” - is a comprehensive and informative program designed to help educate caregivers, health professionals and those who serve older adults, covering issues that can make oral hygiene difficult for semi-dependent or aging adults and those who care for them. For example, assistance with daily oral hygiene is often needed for adults who have a loss of strength, mobility or dexterity or have experienced illnesses such as a stroke, Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's. The program contains easy-to-understand information and suggestions on how to maintain a daily oral hygiene regimen for semi-dependent older adults, including those with dentures.
