We believe that our members should be aware of, and we encourage them to become involved in, legislative issues that affect dentistry on state, local, and national levels. Our members may become involved in any individual, or all three areas of advocacy: the Political Action Committee (PAC) in their respective state, the American Dental Political Action Committee (ADPAC), and the American Dental Association (ADA) Grassroots Action Team Network.
ADPAC is a bipartisan group of thousands of dentists and Alliance members, who have decided to pool their financial resources to help elect candidates who understand the importance of dentistry and are committed to the nation's oral health. By contributing to ADPAC, you join a powerful and united team that effectively advocates the interest of organized dentistry. For additional information, or to join ADPAC, please contact us at 202.898.2424 or e-mail govtpol@ada.org.
ADA Grassroots Action Team Network is a great opportunity for our members and dentists to involve themselves in the political process. It is a coalition of volunteers who work to support political candidates and to take the their message to their congressional representatives, helping to give added importance and visibility to the dental constituency.
When an important legislative issue arises, action team members are sent an "ACTION ALERT" e-mail through the ADA Capwiz system. This e-mail will inform members of the issue and why the member's assistance is needed.
As part of the e-mail, the member is provided with an editable text message to assist the member in writing their message. It also links the message directly to the member's legislator, making it easy for members to participate in the political process. Be par of this grassroots effort, and sign up.
GOVERNMENT and POLITICS
Visit the ADA source of news and resources about the ongoing actions between organized dentistry and government. From here you will be able to link to government web sites from all 50 states, the U.S. Congress, and other federal agencies.
EDUCATION - Legislative Advocacy Manual
AADA has designed a special guide to help our members understand the political process and how to use that knowledge. Learn how you can protect your family, the dental profession, and its patients in the Legislative Advocacy Manual. Members will find this manual under Resources in the Legislative category, after logging into the For Member site.
AWARDS
During our annual convention, Alliance members are acknowledged for their outstanding efforts in the different areas of legislation and advocacy.
