President's Message

from President Carol Reitz

The Year of Possibilities:  The Year of Many Reasons to Smile

"Impossible!" It is hard to believe that a simple word could have such a dedevasting effect on ideas, programs and progress. When uttered aloud, the word "impossible" creates negativity in our subconscious minds. Our thinking stops, progress halts and doors slam shut. Efforts can come to a screeching halt. Projects are abandoned, hopes dashed and dreams are discarded. Imagination and creativity die. Possibilities are rejected.

"Possible!" When we exclaim the magic words, "That may be possible! That IS possible!" then excitement pervades, Our imaginations, hopes and dreams are stirred. Enthusiasm builds and ideas are sparked which leads to the brainstorming of all the possibilities. Our Alliance thrives!

The Alliance has created six focus areas for the future direction of the Alliance. Within each area, sparks flew, imagination and creativity flourished. The possibilities are becoming reality! I am proud of the advancements the Alliance has accomplished.

  1. The Alliance has a new mission statement.
  2. The Council on Membership worked with a marketing firm to create our updated, new logo, tag line, and color design.
  3. The web site has been redesigned and the content is continually being updated. Check us out often at www.AllianceADA.org.
  4. The size and content of "KEY" has been updated.
  5. Alliance members distributed over 730 "Ready, Set, Brush!" books to public and school libraries and story times for young children throughout the United States in honor of the 150th ADA Anniversary.
  6. A Mentor program involving our Past Presidents as Big Sisters, who lend to our board members their welcomed leadership skills.
  7. The Alliance has created initiatives to increase awareness of and encouraged state and local alliance programs for the improvement of the well being in the Alliance member, ADA spouse and the dental family. Our AADA Well Being chair sits as a member on the ADA Council on Well Being.
  8. The ADA Board of Trustees supported the request of the Alliance and approved the Alliance to have access to the ADA data base for correct home addresses. Again showing the partnership between the ADA and AADA.
  9. The Alliance has increased membership and awareness in ADPAC.
  10. The Alliance supported the ADA with their request to sign on to H.R. 3856 to support and promote research relating to control and prevention of osteoporosis and bone disease.
  11. The ADA Director of Dental Society Services Joe Martin invited Alliance representatives to serve on a committee to create a Leadership Day during the Annual Session in Orlando, FL. This program is for dentists and their spouses who aspire to hold leadership roles in dental practices and to learn valuable concepts and skills as volunteers

Watch the "ADA News" for future articles on our Alliance, go to the web site, and read our "KEY"! We have come a long way. We are on a roll and it is all POSSIBLE because of YOU and what YOU do for dentistry!

We are family and our success will be based on our relationships.
